The monthly March meeting, like all VROA, Inc. meetings this past winter,
was very productive. I think that we witnessed excellent thought and discussion on the part of many members.

I also believe that everone is expecting and looking forward to one of VROA's best seasons ever this year!

I appreciated seeing everyone's help. In particular, I enjoyed seeing the contributions of Mike Becker and of Brad Perry.

Mike Becker, through years of serving as a club officier, was willing and able, much like an elder statesman; to comment from time-to-time with matters of wisdom for the current leadership of the club, who gladly listened to his direction.

And, Brad Perry, what can anyone say to fully express all that he's done this year for VROA - and under less than perfect personal life situations pulling at him. Great job Brad!

Now to the Wanted Dead or Alive posting.

I looked through my records and yes! I have found a 2007 VROA race schedule that indicates a "Mini Series" for some races! I'm not sure if this schedule was the last revision or not.

What I don't find are any club minutes which indicate a) how the Mini-Series was to be administered, b) what the prize designations were for first, second, third place, etc, and c) anything to indicate that it was ever implemented or even officially adopted.

There exists a variety of member perceptions as to what level the Mini-Series ever progressed to in terms of actually exisitng in 2007!

If somebody would be kind enough to search through your records and find those club minutes and call me, I would appreciate getting a copy of them. And thanks in advance for your help!

Let me finalize on point systems by adding the following: mini-series (or condensed versions of competitive schedules in auto racing and other sports) exist in many organizations, it's not a novel idea with VROA; mini-series can, "by design" act to "compliment" a season long point system, NOT detract from it; they can also act to add some excitement for participants and spectators by interjecting some added saga's in the interval of an otherwise season long process.

In conclusion, let's not discount the future potential of a well designed mini-series (or segmented points or cup series) for our organization. and secondly; a regular season points race or mini-series, with "frequent" updating and written standings help keep everyone involved in a points race.

Thank you!

In 2007, I kept an "unofficial" points tally on the VROA races at Springport as the season wore on and awarded the Unofficial Champion that night with a trophy. In fact, the trophy said "Unofficial Championship" right on it and Lou Caposey was the winner.

Here's the final rundown:

1. Lou Caposey 1352
2. Bob Martin 1288
3. Mike Becker 1241
4. Steve Fuller 1135
5. Max Wirebaugh 1106
6. Don Deyman 1060
7. Rick Nelson 967
8. Larry Molohan 880
9. Samantha Jansen 696
10. Tim Martin 658
11. Rob Parker 645
12. Fred Otterbein 589
13. Jimmy Lawson 393
14. Duane Parker 373
15. Nate Bennett 291
16. Rich Warnes 215
17. Mike Ouendag 201
18. Don Smith 196
19. Len Deyman 189
20. John Winters 181
21. Carl Rieves 170
22. Roger Ackerman 165
23. Art Krontz 20

I used the same points system that I used for the Sportsman class that year. I know it wasn't much, but I really enjoyed handing out that trophy that night.

Maurice;

Thank you for commenting on the point system issue that I recently raised on the VROA website.

While your "track" (Springport Speedway) "Unofficial VROA Championship" should not be confused with the "Mini-Points" concept that I was referring to that incorporates specific race dates taken from a few different race tracks that the VROA visits in a given season (i.e. five or six races total and no more than say, three race dates from any given track); it does illustrate that other people, such as yourself, appreciate point systems built within an overall Season Point Championship."

One can only imagine how much excitement could be generated for fans and participants when a track or race sanction announcer describes the drama unfolding to the race fans between the top and even very competitive mid-pack contneders, during the last couple of races left in a "Championship" like you had with VROA Maurice.

Good Job and thanks again for your effort and comment.
