|

The new Snell rating for helmets used in competitive auto racing will go into effect on October 1, 2010.
This is just a heads up to those who are thinking about purchasing a new racing helmet. You may want to hold off until you can purchase a helmet with the new SA 2010 rating. By waiting and getting a helmet with the newest rating, you may get an additional 5 years of use out of your helmet.
For the 2010 racing season the VROA helmet rule will stay the same, however we will be forced to update the rules for the 2011 season.
It is also important that helmets have an SA rating (for competitive auto racing) as M rated (motorcycle) helmets are not fire resistant. |

I just got off the phone with Impact Racing.
The Snell rating will change in Oct 2010, however the Snell 2005 rating will be accepted until 2015 according to the manufacturers.
I guess time will tell how all the other raing series interpret the new regulations and how they enforce them.
